Gone Fishing

Inspired by Brad’s trip to Vegas with his dad, I left a message with my dad the other day to see if he had some time to hang out with me for a weekend.  I get along great with my dad and I constantly consult him for advice, but I don’t think we’ve spent a solid chunk of one on one time together in over 10 years.

Dad must have been pretty psyched cuz he called me later in the day with a solid list of ideas and dates… fortunately an idea on his list matched with mine!

One of my fondest memories as a kid was spending a few weeks each summer with my dad and best friend Brian camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing, dodging moose and bear, and mucking around in the remote areas of Baxter State Park in the northern part of Maine.

My dad and I are going to spend a weekend doing the same somewhere in the Front Range of Colorado this Spring!

Tech Stars

An early mentor of mine and great guy, David Cohen,, has made an incredible contribution to the entrepreneurial and tech scene in the Front Range of Colorado with the launch of Tech Stars!

Tech Stars is an amazing opportunity for young entrepreneurs to learn from a stellar group of folks, to build out their idea, and to spend a summer in an amazing place, Boulder, CO!  You will get to spend some time with Brad Feld, Jared Polis, David Brown, Kimbal Musk, Brad Schell, Wendy Lea, Terry Gold, Alex King, Seth Levine, Greg Reinacker, Dave Taylor, etc, etc.  Talk about an all star lineup.  See the full roster here.  Holy smokes - that exposure is invaluable.

This is an unbelievable opportunity and something I wish was in action when I came out of school w/ tons of ideas but no clear path for executing or exploring any of those ideas.

Check it out… apply!  There’s also a nice bit on Tech Crunch… be sure to checkout the video there!

Very nice, David!

Naked Geeks

Just got an email from an entrepreneur group I subscribe to and the headline definitely caused a double take:

Naked Geeks

Just had visions of long haired chubby dudes hanging around in the nude writing perl scripts.

The article is about the criminal system by the way.

Go! NewsGator on Demand

NewsGator On Demand (NGEOD) launched yesterday.  Very cool!  Other than this being a fantastic offering there are two things that are awesome about this launch.

First, two of the lead developers on the NGEOD are just fantastic people.  They are always smiling, are very talented, and are a delight to work with.  On a personal note, one of the devs is a smoker - you know who you are :) - and it is my mission to harass this person until he/she quits!  I did the same thing to my buddy Jossepi last year and he got tired of me bugging him and gave up the smokes in favor of flavored tooth picks!
Second, NewsGator Go! for Windows Mobile works splendidly along-side NGEOD.   We had to do some tweaks to make this happen, but it is working flawlessly and presents an excellent environment for consuming RSS on the Go!

Go kick the tires.

Under the Table and Dreaming

Yesterday was a spectacular dad day for me, and I learned some great lessons from my kiddos. I got up early to get some time on the cross bike and a short run and then Holly had the day to hike, do some Yoga, and spend some coffee time with her girlfriends.

It was game on for me and the three kiddos. It was a fantastic day. We ran some errands and then headed over to the Boulder Rock Gym. We hung out there for four hours. Ava got to chill in the back pack and Asher and Emma got to climb. The kids were having so much fun… it was pure, good, clean fun and it was inspiring to see. Sometimes as adults we just forget to have fun. There are so many things to do and so little time. But, we got to remember to let the kid in us out from time to time. It’s a good thing.

Later on, after reading the kiddos a few bed time books, Emma had enough and was ready to hit the sack. I took her up to bed and she looked at me and said, “Dad, I am ready to dream now”. She rolled over and I could hear her quietly recounting the day’s events before drifting off. I can’t remember the last time I put my head down to dream… I usually hit the sack and start thinking about what I need to get done the following day. Tonight, I am going to try to roll over and just dream!
